Rain

So all that rain yesterday kept me inside and I actually got a lot of work done. So i'm wondering whether or not people will work and learn better if they have no other alternative.

  1. It does help learning and all intellectual work, I think, to minimize distractions. On the other hand, it's important to have a balanced life -- friends, activity, music, beauty -- or what's learning for?

Maybe the trick is to be very selective about your non-study diversions. I used to eat lots of inexpensive chocolate; now I only eat very small quantities of the extremely expensive and high quality stuff. I'm more satisfied, and less portly, than the other way.

  2. Completely agree with Matt about the chocolate. If you find a good source for it here in St. Mary's, please let me know.

  3. Nearest source of even semi-great chocolate is Woodburn's in Solomons (not quite in the county, but close). I think Giant in California carries G&B, which is highly comestible though not fairly traded as far as I can tell.
